It’s Hard to Get a Taxi on Chinese New Year’s Eve

We went to a friend’s house to hang out on Chinese New Year’s Eve. The city is very bizarre right now…campus is dead, traffic is low, and some parts of town are deadly quiet; but where there are people it is loud, energetic, and happy. People are dressed up nicely, some are in tiger costumes, familes and friends are gathering, and meals are huge. It’s like Halloween, Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving rolled into one. That said, since we’re not natives and have no “family” in China, it feels like we’re missing out….like eating dinner alone at a Chinese restaurant on Thanksgiving.
