大雨 (big rain)

We are into summer – not the dog days yet, just the mid to high 80s with ever increasing humidity and occasional downpours characterized by rain drops so large just one is enough to drench you. It began to rain as we picked the children up at kindergarten (they come home after lunch to nap). It was tapering off and lightening up when we brought them back to school a couple of hours later. So, I decided that I would come home a work a bit while the weather finished clearing and then ride my bicycle to the market to get necessary dinner fixings (broccoli – we’re just having rice, beans and steamed broccoli) before retrieving the kids. Now, I have only 10 minutes until school dismissal and it is as black as night outside and pouring cats and dogs. Not only is school pick-up a guaranteed raining, I have no vegetable to serve with dinner.
